For owners of pre 1980 Lotus; The Historic Lotus Register invites members and non-members to their Lotus Summer Rally and Picnic in Herts.
Sunday 21st August 2022 from noon Albury, East Hertfordshire, 5 miles north of Ware & west of Bishops Stortford August  21st  Sunday   SG112HS  midday to 5.00pm   The HLR wishes to invite all its members and their historic Lotus cars to their summer rally and lakeside picnic to be held in club member Richard Hinton’s grass meadow. Anyone in Herts and the local area are welcome to join in with pre-1980 Lotus (this is subject to numbers - please contact the organiser Nigel Halliday - Dikko).

The event will be an informal social ‘get together’ occasion and picnic from 12noon to 5pm, in which the aim is to park the cars in a large circle with some gazebos in the middle for shade and conversation!

We aim to attract a diverse display of historic Lotus, both race and road types covering the 1950s to 1970s. The Elite Type 14 is particularly invited and later Lotus (and other classics) may also be welcome subject to prior application. Total numbers attending the event may be limited subject to demand. We have a maximum of 50 cars in mind for this first picnic event, so it is advised to make your application to attend asap.

Please bring your own chairs, table or just a rug. You also have an option to bring your own food and drink, or there will be barbeque style food on sale at lunchtime and cake in the afternoon. Those familiar with the catering at the previous Hertfordshire motor racing film shows where Jane & Bill were in charge of the food will be aware of her high standards.

In order for the HLR and Richard to gain some idea of numbers hoping to attend you are asked to complete and return the attached booking form.

The site is located just north of the A120 between the A10 and Bishops Stortford. The M11, A10, A1 and the M 25 are the main trunk roads to this area of the Hertfordshire and Essex borders. There are various local hotels within 10-miles for those people intending to travel from further afield. There will be facilities for the parking of trailers. (Motorhomes by arrangement).
Please email any applications for attendance to Nigel Halliday, HLR registrar

September 24/25th THE FAMOUS Kop Hillclimb at Princes Risborough in the Chilterns.

Info here.  https://www.kophillclimb.org.uk/

In 1910 motorcyclists, looking for somewhere to stretch their machines, found just what they were looking for in the sinuous and steep Kop Hill road that climbs to the top of the picturesque Chiltern Hills.

Within a year cars joined the motorcycles and the event quickly became The Kop Hill Climb – one of the major events in the Motor Sport Calendar.  As speeds increased so too did the roll call of famous cars, bikes and their intrepid pilots.  The greats of the day like Malcolm Campbell in BlueBird, Raymond Mays in his Bugatti, Henry Seagrave in his Sunbeam and the wonderfully named Count Zborowski in his 8 cylinder Ballot were regular competitors.

Today it’s no longer a competition, but a moving celebration of the history of the car and the motorcycle. A chance to marvel at over a hundred years of pioneering, mechanical progress powered by steam, gasoline, electricity, eccentricity and innovation.

The Kop Hill legend lives on …. go, it's great!
