Sending this from Rome whilst enjoying long forgotten freedoms. Yep, fully vaxxed and bolstered. Masked up, distancing, sanitizing and being as careful as you can be.

The Process to ask the Aust govt to leave or enter is an automated one. You fill in the form online and if you tick the box ( to leave) to say you are fully vaxxed, the. You attach your copy of proof. Because the right boxes have been ticked and "proof" is attached, you get a tick Togo.

Same process to return. Once we get our neg PCR result tomorrow (fingers crossed) we attach it to the form after ticking the boxes and we'll be granted permission to land.

BUT, in both instances you are aware that you have to show that Proof upon departure (us) or arrival (NV). Up to this point no human has vetted your document.

As I understand it, NV produced a letter from the chief Health Officer for The Aust Open Tennis saying they had granted him an exemption to play in the tournament because he qualified for one under their rules ( assumed to be that he had Covid in last 6 months). The Federal gov has released two emails sent to Tennis Aust as early as Nov 18 to point out that having had Covid previously did not comply with the Government's rules that stipulate you must be double vaccinated to leave or enter the country, without exemptions.
When he arrived and showed his letter of exemption to the Border Force officers I bet they nearly gagged. He may as well have given them a letter from his mother!

Tennis Aust should never have given him a letter that they knew would not comply.

However, it wouldn't surprise me if they did it knowing it could well blow up. They are a Victorian based organization and are led by the party that does not currently rule the country. Of course this last bit is only my conjecture, but who does not like a good conspiracy theory.
Had he/ if he plays, I suspect he will have a large scale protest in the stands as, please remember that we have been the most locked down city in the world

I think our paperwork is ok....I hope.

It will be interesting to see if his legal team can produce convincing argument allowing him to remain. He's certainly enough funds to employ the best legal minds.

According to more fulsome news today, it seems that if he was claiming a previous positive Covid test within the past six months then 1) he has to produce a copy of the test AND 2) he must show proof that he is planning to be vaccinated as soon as it is safe to do so.

Given his public statements to the contrary it is not surprising that several lawyers with expertise in the area say he has a 1% chance of winning.  Personally I'm amazed he didn't just leave unless he has a rabbit under his hat!

Money and or Hubris. I promise you this, if he stays...he'll get absolutely no love. They've just retightened restrictions on citizens.

Negative tests for us so flying home tomorrow unless I can convince the better half that another month abroad could be a good move.

If his claim of infection recently from 16th December is correct, then I think this falls during his self isolation period?

Seems like he won on a technicality, I doubt this is over yet. The BBC is reporting the government may still cancel his visa, and if they do he could potentially be banned from Australia for 3 years.

You are correct. Now that more than the headline is through, the judge says he was not given adequate time....

So now up to Federal Minister. Who will be going to an election this year.....

looks like he may bell have won a battle, but should lose the war.
