Hi Alan. That's great, the more the merrier!

I can definitely recommend the Scole Inn. It's where we hold our monthly meetings and we have stayed there many times. Decent food and character rooms too. Try to get a room in the main building, tell them I sent you. It's a nice blat from there to Poringland via the A143 and the twisty B1332.  https://www.vervediss.co.uk

Other than that we only have recommendations for the Angel at Larling or Breckland Lodge at Atleborough. Some folk use those for Snetterton track days.

There are a number of Premier Inns and the like around Norwich. And Maybe some of our gang will add to this thread.

Hope this helps, and look forward to seeing you on the 22nd.

Thanks for all the recommendations. We've managed a booking at Breckland lodge. We would like to eat at Elveden if you could add two of us into those numbers. Looking forward to meeting you all and having a great blat. Alan and Wendy

IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING CATERING FOR THIS EVENT

We regret that The Railway Tavern and Elveden Inn have both withdrawn our bookings. This is largely due to our inability to give reasonably accurate numbers. Regrettably we have only had a handful of folk who said that they wish to eat. Thank you to those few who had kindly responded.

Therefore the plan is as follows:

  • The route remains unaltered
  • Meet at Poringland Community Centre as planned. It will be open for access to the toilets
  • There are plenty of places en-route to pick up a bite to eat or a drink. The key stopping point is Southwold Pier
  • On arrival at the Elveden Inn, park up at the back of the car park in a row for a photo shoot
  • The Inn should be able to provide a drink and crisps/nuts from the bar. It has a large garden with tables and chairs

We are really sorry that we were not able to reserve an area for formal dining, but hope to see you all on Sunday.

No worries Markiebabes, but if you can manage to get away and meet up at the end point you'd be very welcome.

You may get a collecting tin rattled at you though Thumbup

Weather is looking set fair for Sunday.

Thanks all for a great blat today for such a worthwhile cause. You made Wendy and I feel very welcome and it was nice to put some faces to names we see on chit chat and to make some new acquaintances. Hope the rest of the blat went well after we left to head to Chelmsford. Hope to see you again soon. Cheers, Alan and Wendy

Hi Alan and Wendy, it was good to meet you and all of the others who traveled to join the event.

What a cracking day we had, perfect weather and with 16 cars at the Poringland start. Ranworth Broad was a great coffee stop, and more folk joined us at Southwold Pier for a lunchtime stop.

Tony Leigh organized an amazing route of 150 miles, with some great driving roads between the locations. The route ended at Elveden Inn where we had a welcome drink and where some of the remaining folk had a good meal after squeezing into a couple of tables that the staff kindly managed to find.

The collecting tins on the day yielded just short of £90, now donated onto the JustGiving site. It was good to see total strangers chipping in to this worthy cause.

The grand total is currently £710, a huge thanks to everybody for your kind donations, and It's still open for a bit longer in case. Wink

Very well done all, and thank you.

I wanted to come along, too, but had to attend something far less enjoyable.
