Finally got round to The World's Fastest Indian on Friday night. Yes, I know, it came out last decade. But wow, what an amazing film! Would love to know just how close it is to the true story - not so much in terms of the bike, but all the little 'personal' scenes - the trailer wheel 'repair', 'fixing' the cracks in his 'high speed tyres', getting permission to run the thing, etc.

Ooh, do we get a signature? Smile

Just been to our local cinema to watch Captain Phillips. Excellent film, extremely tense, especially if you don't know the outcome of the story it's based on (as I didn't). Tom Hanks is brilliant in the title role and brings real emotion to it. Should also mention the 4 guys who play the Somali pirates who held their own against Mr Hanks, all the more impressive as I understand this was their first ever acting job. There is a little bit of military porn once the US Navy and Seals become involved but because it's a Paul Greengrass film it's kept factual rather then OTT. Also saw this a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very taught and tense with great acting. My only criticism is the music soundtrack seemed a little loud.

May I hugely recommend Nebraska ? Black and white and if Ansel Adams had done pictures of Nebraska it would look like this. Bruce Dern masterful as old man losing his grip on reality ; very moving and hugely funny . Add in a perfect soundtrack and you have my film of the year.Warning- you will need to look for this- because most multiplexes won't show it (no car chases, fart jokes. aliens, goblins or explosions I assume?)

I very much want to see Nebraska - it looks great - but haven't got around to it yet. I did, however, watch 98 other films last year, and this is how I thought they ranked: Jim's rundown of 2013 movies Disclaimer: Everybody will disagree with me - nature of the beast I'm afraid

QJ - interesting, if long, list. Thank you. My £$%^ filter would have deleted two thirds of those well before I approached the cinema doors. I had thought about seeing Gravity. Maybe I'll go to Nebraska instead. I will go to the new issue of Cinema Paradiso as well. Edited by - Golf Juliet Tango on 3 Jan 2014 21:09:12

Has anyone sen "The Hunt" with Mads Mickelsen (the baddie in Casino Royale)? A frighteningly all too familiar possibility, in graphic and deeply disturbing direction. It's rumoured to be up for a number of awards...it's on Netflix currently and we gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Just sitting down to watch "The Butler", curious about it...anyone seen it yet?
