Not to mention the "debris on the back stretch" standard safety car. If a car safely tucked up behind barriers now warrants a safety car I will start watching big time all star wrestling. Buggles rumoured to be making a comeback with new lyrics "Safety Cars Killed Motor Racing".
I suspect the happiest person is Danny Ric. I wouldn't mind being paid not to fight over 17th place.
That was staggering wasn't it? The only way another car could have hit Stroll was by stopping after the corner and reversing into it . As for a penalty because Alonso's car was not quite perfectly aligned what idiot thought 'rules is rules mate',I wonder ?
The longer I follow motor sport at this level , the more convinced I am that far too many of the terribly self important people in the bubble cannot see how absurd they look and sound to the casual observer. Idiotic, inconsistent and asinine application of the rules , and the portentous rubbish people like Toto Wolff spout. Mind you , at least none of them is blowing smoke up Putin's malodorous arse, as Ecclestone notoriously did .
On safety cars I can't help thinking they are looking for any opportunity to use one to help liven up boring racing.
Another thought: Now we have budget caps why do we still need all the engine/gearbox grid penalties. I know it is supposed to be about sustainability but this is F1 where they fly tons of equipment and hundreds of people all over the world. How sustainable can it be?
#85 the engines come outside of the normal cost cap and have their own cap to cover engine cost and development cost, as I understand it and that would allow for many more engines if they were allowed.
Well that was a more entertaining qualifying session than expected, everyone struggling with tyre temperatures leading to lots of running and drivers popping up in random places during the session as they found the sweet spot.
Not quite sure how that is going to translate into the race tomorrow, it still feels like the Red Bulls are a long way ahead and will probably dissappear of into the distance unless something breaks.

#83 I agree with everything you say but it's interesting to see some who don't.
Nico Rosberg blamed the team for making an unacceptable mistake.
Damon Hill said almost literally rules is rules! But then again he said Ferrari would be nipping at the heels of RB this weekend..........

#86 Thanks, did not know that. Another way of making things complicated

#86 Engines are so last century. I keep hearing about something called a power unit . PU for short - sounds about right said out loud .
#88 yes, indeed, Power Unit.
Though by every definition I can find 'engine' covers it quite nicely.
Good morning.
This is the 2023 thread.
