Following a further recce of Epynt Ranges yesterday, by the Taffia’s Dave Evans in his 'Road Survey' spec R300, we found recent resurfacing on a 3 mile section over the Ranges with quite a lot of loose chippings still on the road. The road off the ranges (the B4358 from Beulah to Newbridge on Wye) has also been resurfaced, although loose chippings aren’t a significant problem there.
Having spoken with the workers undertaking the resurfacing on Eypnt, they confirmed that this section had already been mechanically swept. Overall, this part of the run is passable with care (it’s a great section of the route with fab views), specifically on the initial climb up to Epynt.
However, if folks don’t want to risk stone chips, we will be providing an additional option with the roadbook detailing a very straightforward alternative main road route, missing out the Epynt and Beulah/Newbridge sections.
193 starters from The Piercefield, of which 99 were first timers. Probably another 19-20 joining along the route. Is this the biggest single blat ever?
Thank you to everyone - those who took part and those who helped with the prep. Hopefully you're all going to relax this evening with a stiff application of after sun.
Please do share your photos and experiences of the day - it will help me write the match report for LF. Also interested in how you think we could adapt/improve the Chip Run for '23.
If anyone is around in Aberdovey tomorrow morning you're welcome to join us for a 40 mile guided blat that will take us in a loop north before returning to Aberdovey. Meet in the main car park at 10.00am.

Well that was another awesome day out!
Thanks, as ever, to the Taffia for organising everything down to green cross code training for the sheep!
Even the chicken-chute around epynt was worth the detour.
Hope everyone else isn't too badly sunburnt and enjoys the afterglow for a while.
I hope you all slapped on the factor 50!
Stephen

193 starters! What a cracking turnout. Well done to everyone who organised and took part.
Must do this again sometime, maybe next year.
