The Scottish Border cou ntry can often be by-passed by keen drivers heading to the famous Highland s.The roads to the east and west of the M74 offer some wonderfully flowing driving roads\, snaking their way through beautiful hilly countryside. I have been visiting this area regularly for almost 20 years and on reflecti on consider it to be my favourite\, reasonably accessible motoring nirvana .The club has secured 15 rooms at two hotels: the Peebles Hydro some 20 mi les to the south of Edinburgh and the Priestland House in the famous seasi de\, golfing town of Troon. Both hotels are used to hosting car tours and offer safe parking.The itinerary will take us north departing from the Ced ar Court on June 28th through yet more great roads of North Yorkshire and the North Pennines and on to the Peebles Hydro. On Monday June 29th\, ther e is a plan to visit the superb Jim Clark Museum in Duns for those that ar e interested. On June 30th\, we will then take leisurely meander to the so uth and west\, heading through the Lowther Hills and then turning north-we st to Troon. July 1st will see us explore the open moors and forests of Du mfries and Galloway.This opportunity is ideally (but not exclusively) suit ed to those who are attending the Tea Run\, centred on the Cedar Court Hot el in Harrogate\, from 26th June 26 to 27th June. The scenery in this greener part of Spain and Portugal is spectacu lar and the usually excellent road surfaces make for superb driving countr y – as a bonus the local food is mouth-watering. And for the wine offici anados\, the Vinho Verde of the Douro valley isn’t too shabby either.
